“Magot” is a cold-coloured painting, which will be particularly suitable for a colourful or modern interior. Its name comes straight from the animal represented: a Barbary monkey, also called a magot. These monkeys live in the mountains of North Africa as well as in Gibraltar, where it is said that the city will remain British as long as the magots live on the rock above it. They are fascinating animals, especially because of their proximity to humans, but be careful not to approach them too close to avoid being attacked: adults are protective towards their youngs.
The magots have a golden-brown coat, a colour I have kept here only for the eyes. A touch of blue – purplish in the coat completes this yellow and brings out the animal’s vibrant look. This painting can be framed or not, it is protected by a layer of glossy varnish.
